Brownback Backs Out

Sam Brownback is out of the presidential race. Bummer. I was so looking forward to casting my vote his way.
Seems like whenever I get to liking someone, they ain't around for long.

A Minute To Spare

I feel bad for my throngs of loyal readers, who wake every morning desperately hoping that I have posted something here, only to be thrust into the archives to get their fix of my excellent writing. It's better than nothing though, isn't it. Well isn't it?

That's the way it goes when the sales department at your company doesn't understand scheduling. But they've been doing a great job of selling our products! I'm not worried about getting laid off. Man, we've been so busy for so long that today I realized how Bill and Ted must have felt while they were falling down a bottomless pit in "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey". That scene was hilarious, but really I can relate. We're hopelessly behind schedule, and then the boss says he's got a hot job. We need to drop everything and do this. Of course another, even hotter job is coming right behind it, and on it goes until it's just silly. And then some.

The bottomless pit? At first you panic and try to do something - anything - to get out of this crazy situation. But after falling for a few hours I guess you'd start getting hungry, or maybe sleepy. You'd have to start getting used to it eventually, wouldn't ya? Start planning your day tomorrow (I think I'll continue falling...) That's sorta how it's gotten at work. When someone asks when this or that job will be done, the most common response is, "Why would we be working on that already? It's not even late yet!" We do our best to keep it light, because we know we're all in it together, but it's obvious that there are storms brewing just under the surface. Someone there is having a bad day just about every day, and you don't always know who it is.

Thankfully, my after-work life has lightened up some lately. Not a lot, but some. I look forward to not having to be efficient. I wanna just sit out on my deck and look at the clouds and waste time. I know the day is coming, but so far it's been like the watery reflection you see on the road when you're driving on a sunny day, how it's always off in the distance and when you get closer, it moves farther away. But I know I'm gunna get my feet wet in it soon!
