Maya Angelou Quote

It's been a rough couple of weeks. On Thursday we attended our third funeral in less than two weeks. But while looking for a sympathy card, I ran across one containing a quote from Maya Angelou that I thought was exceptional. It was this:

"It is healthy and honorable to weep at the loss of someone we love. Healthy because such passion must be released. Honorable because it is respectful to admit the importance of people who have loved and supported us...people whose footprints cannot ever be matched."

Some Kind Of Sign

At our daughter's birthday party recently, our son and his wife gave us a souvenir cross that they picked up for us when they were in Mexico for their honeymoon a couple weeks ago. It's about 6 inches high by maybe 4 inches wide, so it was sticking out of my shirt pocket all night. When our granddaughter noticed it, she asked "Hey Papa, where'd you get the big peace sign?"

At first I thought, "Ha ha! It's not a peace sign, silly! It's a cross!" But then it hit me. And she had no idea how profound that was.

Now Concerning The Announcements

A humorous daydream (or humourous, if you're from Canada) comes your way from Ecclesiophilist: Concerning Announcements. Thanks to the Kerux for linking to it in the first place!

Ad-Aware 2007

With the retirement of Ad-Aware SE Personal (Free version), I downloaded the new Ad-Aware 2007 freeware. It's more bloated than the SE version and it takes about four times longer to scan than SE, but hey- it works and it's free!
Today, after getting the latest update, I got a pop-up out of my task bar letting me know that I could get the paid version of Ad-Aware 2007 for free, just by buying flowers for my valentine. And even after clicking on the red "X", the pop-up wouldn't go away until I finally closed the app. Hmmmm....
An annoying pop-up ad offering to give me a free gift and all I have to do is buy something first.

Ya know, it was the "free" version, but come on: It's an application whose sole purpose in life is to find and remove adware from computers. And it's serving up ads. At least it was, until I uninstalled it about ten seconds later. Just on principle. Hmmph.
You can download the new version of Spybot Search and Destroy for free here.

The Kids Are All Right

Our youngest son and his bride are safely back from their honeymoon in Mexico, and are now enjoying wedded bliss here in the real world, where it'll be 17 degrees below zero Saturday night. Here's to love, and global warming.

Super Bowl Prediction

I don't like the New England Patriots and I'd love to see them lose, but I can't imagine the New York Giants beating them in the Super Bowl tonight.
News flash: The Patriots are pretty good.

My prediction- Patriots 35, Giants 17
